This is a random extract from a novel I've been writing - please be gentle with me - its my baby :)

That night Lucy dreamed of what she could only describe as heaven. She was reunited with her friends and family, some who had passed away and other who were still here but she just hadn’t seen in a very long time. Everyone was dressed in white and gold. Long flowing gowns, everyone looking happy and peaceful. She felt happy and peaceful. Then in the distance she saw Matt. His skin bronzed and his chest far more defined then normal. Lucy felt herself smile and walk towards him, the clouds soft on her bare feet, but then everything that was once white and peaceful turned black and cold and the clouds on which had held Lucy high began to fade. She tried to run to Matt but she couldn’t get to him. She screamed and screamed but no sound came out. She could feel herself falling slowly through the clouds descending back down to reality. She tried to hold on, remaining in a place where she was happy. But her hands keep slipping through the clouds. And then she saw it. The reason for her falling from her world of happiness. Matt and Zoe.

Lucy woke up in a hot sweat. It took her a few moments to realise where she was. Her room was cold and dark. Galaxy was still lying next to her fast asleep; blissfully unaware of what was going on. Lucy looked at the clock on the wall. 4:45am. She knew she wouldn’t get back to sleep so she found her slippers and dressing gown and made her way to the living room. The room seemed smaller now in the dim light. She could only make out the silhouettes of the objects in the room. The 3 piece leather sofa, the 32 inch plasma screen TV. The coffee table that had magazines and DVD’s stacked up on top of it. She could see the outline of the picture frames of the shelves. The pictures of her and Matt on holiday. The pictures of her and Matt when they took Galaxy home for the first time. Lucy felt the tears run down her face again and she turned away not able to be confronted with those images yet. She walked towards the sofa where she had thrown her phone earlier. She sat and looked at her phone. Nothing. Lucy curled up on the sofa and hugged herself. Nothing. That summed her up now she thought. Nothing. A nobody. Nobody in the world cared. She pulled over the pink throw that was draped over the arm chair and wrapped in round herself. She looked at her phone. Almost pleading with it too light up and tell her that someone out there loved her. But nothing. She wiped away the single tear that had escaped her eye. She couldn’t understand any of it. How in such a short space of time everything had fallen apart. She didn’t understand how any of it had happened. How she had been so unaware of the spectacular failure that was happening right in front of her very own eyes. She really had thought that with Matt she would prove her grandfather wrong. That good things do last. But it looked like once again he was right. The tears rolled down Lucy’s cheeks like ice stinging her skin. She didn’t even bother to wipe her eyes, or even blow her nose as the tears became heavier. She didn’t care anymore. She had lost everything and there was only one person who she knew that would be able to do anything right now that would help. Through the tears Lucy dialled into her phone a number that she had engraved into her brain. After several rings a tired women answered the phone. "Mum, I really need you"
