Mega-corps ran the world. There was no government, no religion. No unemployment. Each country was run by a mega-corp and the really big ones, they owned multiple country's. Country?. I don't think that's the right term anymore. Where I live, used to be called England. Now dubbed Virgin Islands, there used to be a real Virgin Islands a long time ago, once part of the United Stated of America I think, now named after the mega corp that control, you guessed it, Apple. America truly unified, no more separate states.

Some time in the early 21st century according to the propaganda, standard issue in schools, the worlds economy went to shit. Countries were bankrupted or close to it. Greece was the first to see the major issues. Starting off with riots over forced austerity measures then turning into looting, fighting, killing then civil war. This eventually happened all over Europe and then spread like a cancer to the rest of the world. Even the juggernaut China crashed and burned. England not wanting to suffer the same fate decided to privatise every thing they had. The fuel market and transport industry had been this way for years already. The government at the time took it an extreme step further. They privatised government, the military and believe it or not, the Royal Family. Of course there was some turbulence caused by this transmission of power but that settled down, in time. The winning bidders, there were a few, pretty much settled all our debts, effectively wiping the slate clean. The world soon followed the same plan.

In a few business deals, some shady no doubt, the corporate world had done something the world had been striving for, for a millennia or two unsuccessfully. They brung about a true world peace. This was the new world order.
