In the year of 2932 a virus spread throughout the world. This virus was not a killer. It was different. It started off in Africa and quickly found a way to the other three continents. Scientists could not understand where it came from and how but understood that the first cases were caused by an airborne pathogen. They tracked it's evolution over time, it constantly changed and they could not find a cure. After a year or so of research they discovered it no longer traveled through the air, it was passed on through physical interaction. A bite, saliva. I mentioned the virus was not a killer, the effects of the virus on man turned him into a killer though. The sufferer having all of their faculties about them, no change in inteligence or mobility from before they were infected. Acts of violence could not be controlled by the sufferer and more often than not they had no memory of the attack. As the virus mutated evermore over time, new side symptoms came to prominence. The most notable being Photo-dermatitis, a sun allergy. Any infected who came into contact with natural sunlight burned, a severe sun burn, rashes, blisters and flesh peeling off their bodies. Out of the worlds population of 23 billion, 7 billion were now infected, this number increasing everyday. The hardliners argued that they should be wiped out fearing they would be the downfall of mankind, there was no way to predict how the virus could mutate further. Whereas mostly everyone else thought this was wrong, despite their illness, this is all that it is, an illness after all, the infected should be cared for and protected. In the end though the infected banded together, fearing their remaining sentience was fading they asked to be segregated from the rest of the population. There was nowhere to put them however. It was agreed by all nations after deliberations and compromises were made that the infected should have their wish. The governments of the world built ships of epic scale and sent the infected away from earth, to the far side of the moon to start a new life for themselves. This is how the Legend of Space Vampier's came to be. For two thousand years, they have lived out their lives separate to those of the world below them. They have not been heard of since they landed. Until now.

(Yes, I went there, Space Vampier's. Que hate mail from Twilight fans).
