The Broken-tooth Smile

In a dusty old lane stood a house so eerie,
It sent chills down, trembles, really..
There lived an old lady misshapen and haggard,
Broken-tooth smiled at the folk who laggard..

She'd come to pick flowers in the orchard next door,
For her eerie old house haunted by folklore..
She walked with a limp, holding a cane,
And eyes would follow as if she were bane..

She tried to make friends but all was in vain,
For the townspeople often looked at her with disdain..
So she sat at her window dismal and alone,
And pitied herself in her old eerie home..

Until one day I picked up some nerve,
And knocked on her door, my face full of verve..
I waited a few until she opened the door,
A broken-tooth smile on her face she wore..

Kindly and warmly, in she welcomed me,
Asked me to sit and offered me tea..
Crumpets and crackers followed the drink,
And she sat next to me, tears on the brink..

She talked and chattered as if never before,
Kind and polite she is, I felt to the core..
I took leave of her home and hospitality,
And stood there awakened with reality..

A gentle old lady with a broken tooth-smile,
Had been kind and generous all this while..
Dreary and dismal, she lived on her own,
In her humble little house, all alone..
