I saw you sitting there
Hollow eyes, vacant stare.
Caved in upon yourself
Did it seem like I didn't care?
As my earthly form disengaged,
scuttling away down the lane....
My heart remained.
I see you, old man.
Through the dirt and grime.
Through the drool,
and ravages of time.
And I am here, once again.
A child,
come to you for buttery delight.
For, you were.....
The Divine Popcorn Man.
Generous with butter
It was always just right
You were....
the sweet black man,
with the large, white smile.
Popcorn cart,
on the beach.
Your twinkling eyes,
as much a treat
as buttery kernel.
I saw you sitting there,
A divine life, less fair
Hollow eyes, vacant stare.
My feet,
never missed a beat,
but this
child heart
still cares.
