Sadie sat frozen for what seemed an eternity. She sat rooted, staring at the space across the table he had previously occupied. All that was left now was the palpable energy of despair. He'd left it, hanging there. His farewell gift to her. She was certain he wasn't coming back...ever. But that was what she wanted right? She'd done it for his own good. Now she could be certain he wouldn't get any further involved in this shit.
Sadie stared morosely at the old photos of she and Jude scattered on the table. Her mosaic of treachery.
The phone shattered the silence, snapping her back to herself. She knew exactly who would be on the other end.
"Yes, Jude"
"Sadie! What the fuck. Why is Charlie leaving the compound?"
There was a moment of silence as she searched for what to say. How to explain.
"Jesus, Sadie. What did you do?"
For this, she had words to explain. She knew exactly what she'd done because she planned it very carefully. But she wasn't going to tell Jude that. She wasn't going to tell Jude anything.
