I have been handicapped by severe shyness all of my life. It isn't really a lack of confidence but that is the effect it has.
The fear of drawing attention to oneself means that many doors are shut. The terror of walking into a room full of people will keep me awake at night. I have become a fairly good actor, I pretend to be confident, but I'm not.
When I read on Opuss the posts by youngsters, who say they are suffering from isolation because they can't push themselves forward, I want to assure them that time passing will cure the problem. I wish I could, but I can't!

I know exactly what you mean Linda, I've just put up an #acorn about the very same subject. Totally crippling. 👍❤
@leelee101 Thanks Lee. The good thing about Opuss is that i can hide but still communicate! I am going to have a look at your post now. 😊
@crowncottage it's so bizarre, I'm going to reiterate the comment I made on the original post - being in a room full of strangers kills me, yet here I am on Opuss... In a room full of strangers.
Starve the ego and feed the soul....wisdom is more confident than misplaced confidence lol 👍😜😘 lovely write
I have only just read this post and it can fit into so many stories of isolation, like my own for example, we become good actors.🌹🌹🌹
@marymint yes we do. It's even more difficult for you with your deafness, that is isolating before you start. 😏
Aaww this is great, it's nice to hear from someone with experience... Guess my confidence issues won't get any better over time... :/ thanks for entering :)
@RichWithey haha, thanks I might give it a try. Mind you, will it help if I'm confident but can't stand upright? I agree with what you said though. I call it acting, but when I need to appear confident I can do it, it's in everyday situations, eg, approaching a casual acquaintance in the street or knowing I will have to enter a room full of strangers, I chicken out or suffer agonies worrying about having to do it. I have a weird psyche, but don't most of us? 😹😹😼
