I really should be sleeping,
But I'm just lying here instead.
Staring at the darkness,
Thoughts floating through my head.
All the things to do tomorrow,
All the things I didn't do today.
Still sleep refuses to come
And carry me away.
A tap drips in the kitchen,
A lamppost flickers outside.
The rest of the world is sleeping,
But from me sleep has chosen to hide.
I wrap my duvet around me,
And curl up into a ball.
Bury my head in my pillow,
And hope that into sleep I will fall.
I really should be sleeping,
But I'm just lying here instead.
Staring at the darkness,
Thoughts floating through my head.
