Life continued from there. It was months since it'd happened, but the dreams continued. The same one over and over, with one difference each time. When I turned the corner, she sat in a different place. The search carried on, but hope receded every day. Those around me knew it as well as I did. I was called into the police station on a cold thursday afternoon. They told me the search was off. My wife and daughter were gone with the wind. I cried that day. It was a long day and it felt like the world was over, but that night something changed. I woke early in the dream, when I get the image of my wife as I last saw her when a realisation struck. I panicked, how hadn't I noticed it before?! My wife was alone. My wife was standing alone and then later sitting alone. My daughter wasn't there, and I realised she never had been. My daughter wasn't with her.
