He stepped silently out of the shadows like a spectre, his face ashen in the cold moonlight, the wind lifting the tails of his suit jacket and playing with strands of his thick, chestnut hair.
"So, it's come to this," he said, focusing on his mirror image standing before him, ancient blade in his right hand.
'Valamir, you knew the price of betrayal and now you must pay it. He will not wait any longer."
The hungry cries from the army of tormented souls could be heard in the lost wind; weaving its deathly power through the skeletal trees. The moonlight fading in the menacing sky.
"I have committed no crime. I have freed myself from the shackles of dark insanity. I want no more part in this. "
"You took an oath Valamir, the Dark Lord himself was witness. You cannot betray the legion."
"You will not have her..., He cannot have her!" His words echoed in the futile silence. He knew his struggle was over; he had eluded them for months, but he was now beaten, cold and weak. It was only a matter of time, before they found the child.
Evander lifted the blade to the brutal night sky.
"Then, so be it," Valimir began "but remember this, my one true brother, kill me and you will never have her. Her light only shines for me."
The Dark Lords fury and portentous wrath could be felt in the thunder, quaking the ground beneath their feet. His tormented legion of souls within the silhouetted trees, released their deathly screams. The sound shattering the quiet abyss.
"You lie!" Evander sliced the blade through his brothers body. The mutilated form, fell lifeless to the ground. A searing pain ripped through Evander's entire body, he too fell to the ground, then nothing.
Nothing. Nothing but silence; then the light came. The beautiful light illuminating the deathly sky. The tormented souls retreated to the trees, safe in their skeletal copse.
Valamir opened his emerald eyes, "Run!"
