They rolled back the carpet
To see what lay underneath
To their puzzlement
An old trap door was hidden beneath
Looking at each other
They tried the rusty latch
With ease it came loose
And they opened up the hatch
The smell was overpowering
Even more so than before
It took all of their will power
To stay and look for more
With torch in hand
And scarfs around their nose
They descended the rotten stairs
Where it leads, nobody knows
Despite the solitary beam of light
It was difficult for them to see
Carefully to the bottom they went
Crouching down on bended knee
It was damp and cold down there
The stench smelled like death
Suddenly, they turned, not alone
They could hear another breath
Two eyes, as red as fire
Appeared and burned their soul
Panic started, torch dropped
They had lost control
The hatch slams shut
Their world goes black
The only hint of light fades
As the carpet rolls back
