Victim

The droplets of water reverberate inside the room. The thick silence,
interrupted by the periodic descending of the water into the stainless sink,
made me go crazy. With every drop I felt liked it's a signal of some
upcoming danger that lurks behind the door.

I turned and faced the door waiting for someone to open it. With every tick
of the clock, tiny sweats of horror ran through my cheeks. My fear building
up inside me and I felt like I was going to explode in the intensity. The
waiting dragged on until I could no longer hold this great curiosity within
me, although very much afraid, I opted to open it. I held on to the knob for
a second, feeling the cold metal touch my skin. Slowly, I turned it and with
a click, it was opened. I quietly pushed the door to see a wider view of the
outside.

Instantly, I was relieved to see no one but the rushing of the cold wind and
the swaying branches of the tree. "Was it all just my imagination," I asked
myself.

With great relief, I crossed the distance from the door to my room in no
hurry. My mind kept on wondering on the time I wasted on scaring myself when
in fact there was nothing to be scared of. The nerves of fear had long been
settled when I came back to my room, but the sight of it made me relive it
again. It made me feel sick to my stomach that I wanted to puke. It gave me
goose bumps followed by this weird coldness that embraced my whole being,
which made me immobile for a few seconds.

The room was a mess. Blood splattered all over liked an abstract painting
only the canvass was the walls of my room and the paint was blood. I
wondered what could possibly happen in such a short span of time and without
me hearing it. Have I gone deaf to have this thing escape my ears?

I followed the droplets of blood in the floor, knowing full well that it
would lead me to the beat that had done such a horrible thing. Gone was the
fear that once took over me before and was replaced with anguish.

I entered the bathroom where the last drop of blood was leading. The shower
was running strong and the light was on. No sound was heard except the
rushing of the water filling the tub. Slowly, I drew the curtain to the side
to see the shadow that was bothering me since I enter.

Instantly, I felt the blood inside me left my body. I paled in shock and
horror as to my discovery. I would have never guessed it, not in my years of
living.

The tub filled with water. Inside was a girl curled up and cuddling her
knees in a foetal position. Her nakedness was remained hidden from view as
her blood muddied the water which took its clarity. Her lifeless body looked angelic
with her mouth slightly curved into a smile and there was gentleness in her
position. She looked fragile and innocent, but there was sadness lurking in
her - a story remained untold.

Tears ran down in disbelief. The girl in front of me was not the culprit;
she was not the beast I was looking forward to see. She was a victim not of
anyone but of this world.

I don't need to ask who she was or her name. I know her well. Because she
and I was the same.
