Hollow

I sat there watching. The guests were mingling, scuffing cake and cookies in their face. They talked about the weather and the news and how the cake was so lovely. Feeling utterly out of place in this meaningless gathering I just sat there. No one said anything that really mattered. I shivered. The world would be so different if they all just stopped for a while and woke up. I looked at my dog. She stared at me with her sincere eyes and I knew I weren't invisible. I stood up and walked out the door. My dog by my side we went back to the real world.
