Strange Happenings - Chapter 14

His search narrowed it down to 5 possibles. Karen Tomkins, the one that Darren needed to find, had been married to a local solicitor called Charles who had been sent to an institution for the criminally insane about 30 years ago. He had apparently just lost it one day and killed a man. Darren's mum hadn't given any further details about that.

Darren decided to try his luck with the 5 local addresses that he had and if that didn't work, he would have to visit Charles.

The third house did it though. Karen Tomkins was expecting him as well. "You must be Darren" she said as he walked up her driveway. Darren wasn't surprised at such things anymore and simply replied "and you must be Karen".

"I'm sorry about your mum" she said as she closed the door behind him. "What happened?" he asked as he took a seat in the lounge. "What do you remember?" Karen replied.

"It's a bit difficult to explain" Darren began, "but I was thrown against a wall by some kind of unnatural being or force, the next thing I remember is waking up in the middle of all the smoke from the fire. I never saw my mum again".

"oh I know all about the prince" Karen said. "Prince?" Darren asked excitedly. "Yes" replied Karen. "The entity your referring to is known as 'The Prince'. He's not the prince of darkness or anything like that. I've heard that he used to be a real prince in Saudi Arabia a very long time ago. He was heir to his fathers kingdom and would have inherited an absolute fortune in money and land".

"what happened?" Darren asked. "Well, I'm not entirely sure" Karen continued, "but it's rumoured that he was betrayed by somebody close to him and thrown into a deep pit, where he died a horrible, slow death".

"my mum mentioned a guide who fell down a pit when he was showing them a temple or something" Darren explained. "it was where she first saw the dark shape or this prince" he said.

"What else did she tell you about that trip Darren?" she asked. "Very little, I was hoping you could shed some light on all of this" he replied.

"all I know is that it came back to England inside of your father and when it had finished using his body, it killed him and my husband, Charles, got the blame for your fathers death".

"I don't know what it did to Charles but he has never spoken a word since that night. They say he went mad and killed your father but I know he had nothing to do with it".

"What does it want?" Darren asked. "and why me? Why my mum?" he questioned as he stared at the photographs on top of Karen's fireplace. "Who is that? He asked as he stood and walked closer to one of the pictures.

"Oh that's Stuart, my son" she replied. "Why do you ask?" she said. "Do you know him? He's gone missing" she said softly and with a hint of sadness in her voice. "I don't know how to tell you this Karen" Darren said "but he's dead, I saw him cut his own throat at my mums house and I think the Prince took over his body".

Karen stared at Darren in disbelief. Her eyes were beginning to fill up with tears. Before she could cry though, the house began to grow dark.
