Part 1

Hazel was always a little different from other kids. Graham and Sue were so proud when they brought her back from the hospital wrapped up in her little blanket with her little pink nose and tiny little hands and thick black hair. Graham always thought all baby's come out bald but not Hazel. They were quite well off back then and Hazel had everything a baby could possibly need and more. All the family were over the moon and I can honestly say them first five years were the happiest in there life. However, when she turned six on the 6th June 2006, things changed forever.

Hazel had invented an imaginary friend she called BB. She would often ask "Where's BB's knife and fork" when they were at the dinner table. Graham and Sue found the whole thing hilarious at first and would play along, setting an extra place at the table complete with plate and cutlery. "It's just a faze love, she'll grow out of it soon enough, besides don't all kids have one?". Graham used to say. 'At first.'

Hazel was very well behaved and her room was always spotlessly clean. Hazel would always say "BB cleaned it mum" sometimes Graham and Sue would come downstairs in the morning to find all the washing up from the night before cleaned and put away and the house looking spotless. When questioned Hazel would always say the same "BB done it".

On her 7th birthday Graham and Sue felt they had to have a word with Hazel about BB. They had decide to get her a puppy as a way of fading BB out of her life. If only they knew. "BB doesn't like puppies" was the first thing she said when the sweetest looking Golden Labrador puppy was brought home. "Why don't you call the puppy BB and have a new friend sweetheart" Sue tried. Deep down she knew it wouldn't work.

Strange things started happening around the home. The milk was always sour and the fruit would never last a day before rotting. Hazels room was a mess and the washing up was never done when they came downstairs anymore. It was on a cold rainy day in December when things took a turn for the worse. Graham was greeted to a sight he'll never forget when he came downstairs in the morning.

"Thorn, Thorn" he called "walkies" he said as he entered the kitchen. The smell hit his senses straight away. A foul putrid stink that made him cough and gag. He found Thorn in the front room with his stomache split open and his guts spilled out on the floor. There was maggots crawling across the carpet swollen with blood from there feeding. Graham nearly passed out at the shock of what he was seeing. There was a knife covered in blood and fur lying next to the poor dog. All the doors were still locked from the inside. "What the fuck is going on, what the fuck" Graham said with a tremble in his voice. There was tears in his eyes as he wrapped Thorn in a blanket and put him in the garden and sat at the table crying, waiting for Sue and Hazel to wake up. He knew it was Hazel, who else could it be?.
