A very short, short story.

You become very self reliant living in the countryside as I've found out since I moved here. Well I say 'moved' let's just say it was necessary. I live in a small white brick cottage complete with thatched roof that's surrounded by fields and scattered English oak trees. There is a road that runs past the back garden of my cottage that's seldom used. I like to walk in the fields drinking in the English countryside and combine this with the peace and quiet, it makes for a perfect life out here. Of course I miss the city with the hustle and bustle, and one day I will return. When things have died down a bit.

It was last winter when it happened. The snow had been falling for days. I remember looking out over the fields at the white blanket covering everything. Even the bare trees looked beautiful with snow balancing on their branches. I'd prepared well for the winter and had stocked up with plenty of food and had been chopping logs all summer for my fire. Always be prepared has always been my moto. Well if your not prepared out here then you could get yourself into trouble real fast. I remember the night quite clearly. I'd gone to bed at my usual time, just after the 'news at ten' and must of been asleep for less than an hour before it happened.

There was an almighty crash that shook the foundations of my cottage. I woke with a jump and quickly got dressed and rushed outside. A car had crashed right through my back fence and was on its roof. The car's wheels were still spinning when I opened my back door. I quickly run to the aid of the driver who had been thrown clear of his car and was lying in the snow face down unconsious, his left arm was clearly dislocated and his face was covered in blood. I managed to put his arm back in place with a twist and then I summoned all my strength and carried him into my cottage.

I put him in the bed in the spare room and made sure he was warm and covered in blankets. I remember him waking up in the bed in a state of shock. 'Don't worry mate your safe now' I told him, he seemed to be in a lot of pain. I had managed to put his arm in a make shift sling and had wiped the blood from his face. 'Apart from your arm and a few cuts you've been a very lucky boy' I said to him. He held his stomach when he spoke, and I could tell he was still in pain when he said 'I don't know what happened, one minute I was driving along and the next, I've woke up here, I can't thank you enough, you've saved my life'. 'Don't thank me just yet' I told him. I tell you his face was a picture when I produced the sledge hammer and asked him 'So tell me, have you ever seen Misery?....

This was my first ever story on opuss that has been deleted for nearly a year. Of course if you haven't read Misery or seen the film then you probably have not got a clue what the end means. Lol Thanks for reading.
