This is a true story about the inventor of chess and an Emperor of China.
The Emperor of China was so impressed with the man who invented chess he said 'you can have anything you want as a reward, just ask me for it' The inventor replied that all he wanted was a grain of rice on the first square of a chess board, two one the second, four on the third and so on (there are 64 squares on a chess board) The Emperor ordered a few sacks of rice to be brought in, thinking he'd got away without much expense. He soon realised the inventor had asked for more rice than had ever been produced...
