A black haze clouded my vision, as I rose from my resting place. The events from before were a blur, from the windows smashing, to the dart penetrating my skin. I don't know where I am or why I'm here. I rise from my bed, only to suffer pain-inducing spasms jolting through my body. I fall to the floor, catch myself and try again. This time I see it, a tiny bolt of electricity darting from the white security camera.
I look around. The room is small, and the only visible thing is a metal framed bed, secured by some light soldering. I'm not strong, but as I pull at the bed frame it starts to crack, and soon enough I have two metal rods. Next I threw each rod in quick succession to where I was struck, and once again I was shocked, but by a shock that rebounded around the room. Once my sight cleared, a synthetic voice came from a speaker somewhere in the roof, "Congratulations, Siris, you have passed the first test. Please proceed through the door".
I turned round as a door slid open behind me, and I proceeded as instructed. Through the door, sounds of jungle life surrounded me, and other kids my age stood around, looking scared, confused, apprehensive. I crept up to them, with stealth being my only talent that I've known. In my old time, before my, capture, I was a victim of bullying, being terrorised every day, with staying hidden being my primary defence. I sat in the background, observing the others. Slowly, more emerged from the white buildings which held me minutes earlier. There didn't seem to be a pattern to who was here with me. There were small people, strong people, average people. Gender also didn't seem to matter with who was chosen. As the ninth person (not including me), strode out of the white building, the synthetic voice once again boomed out from somewhere above, "Congratulations, children, you have all made it past the first hurdle". The voice betrayed no hint of being human, or even a gender, "You will spend ten more days here. Don't try to run, or you will be compromised. Whoever is left at the end can leave. If you are not there, you are likely dead, killed at some time over the ten days. Walk on into the surroundings together, and the first task will be explained."
Once again, I stuck to the shrubs and trees as the group advanced, and so far it seemed I hadn't been noticed. Very quickly, the wildlife levels escalated, and within a half a minute out entrance was not visible. Around five minutes in after following the track of no trees, we reached a clearing. The first girl to walk into it was a smallish, brown haired girl. She strode confidently, but on her third step fell into a pre made pit. Her scream was cut short. Next up was another small kid, but a boy. Every step he took was tested. And when he got to the pit, he went as pale as a ghost. Suddenly, everyone ran over to see the result of the fall, so I used the noise to mask me climbing the nearest tree.
In the pit lay a bloody mess of what was once a relatively pretty girl. Spikes protruded from her chest and legs, and blood flowed freely like water from a stream. Slowly, each of the eight remaining kids trod away from the pit, and towards the other side of the clearing, where I could see a small table.
