Supermarket shelves were stripped bare within the first 48 hours. You either had enough food stocked up already or you didn't. Most that dashed to local markets did so in vane. Men and women who found themselves lucky enough to fight through the doors never managed to grab more than a few items. Those who were able to achieve this and fight their way back out, did so only to discover others, fortunate enough to escape with anything, being brutally beaten, stabbed and or shot down, robbed of any and all possessions of value by awaiting mobs who were unable to enter the stores themselves. Police had no chance of successfully responding to these attacks as they were spread far too thin. Many cops, during the first few hours of the crash, chose to retreat to their respective homes and families. Those officers who remained on duty found themselves outnumbered. In places such as New York, Chicago and L.A this number was as high as multiple hundreds to one. In fact, since this all began and through my travels to this day I have yet to come across an ex cop that was on duty that day.
