Part 7
-.-.-.-.-.-
"Peeta we need to get back" I say dipping my feet in the water.
"Nuh uh." he said shaking his head and pulling me back next to him and millions of tiny kisses that send warmth around my whole body bit by bit.
"Seriously stop it, Zaya will be worried" I laugh, standing up and pulling Peeta up along with the prices of meat and weapons.
"Come on we need to hurry" I say starting to jog instead of stroll, Peeta close behind.
We get to the edge of the forest and I set up my bow and arrow.
We snuck quietly to the house.
"It's kinda spooky.. How there's no capturers around" I say as we get to the front door.
"I guess it must be quite nice for you. Oh I know why they're not here!" exclaims Peeta pushing open the door of the house, we walk in and set up all the kill to skin and cook up for dinner.
"What?!" I say starting to skin a rabbit,
"Well I think every now and then every capturer has 5 days off. Like a holiday"
"Kinda pathetic. I mean evil murder people have holidays!" I laugh happily. Peer smiles and watched me gut the rabbit gently.
"Where's Zaya?" asks Peeta
"In her bedroom probably." I hopped up the stairs, I quickly wiped my hands on my top as I knew that Zaya doesn't like the whole killing idea.
"Zaya, we're home." I say walking into her room. She's sitting at her small desk with her back to me.
"Imogen, help me" she says in a small voice,
"Zaya what's wrong? Zaya?" I say fear rising up in me. I run to her side and see her chest covered in blood.
"Zaya what happened?" I scream, I hear Peeta running up the steps to me. He crashes through the door to my side and sees Zaya.
"Zaya what happened?" I repeat
"They came and hurt me with a knife. The capturers"
"Ok Zaya, you stay with us, we can help"
"No Imogen." she insisted
"Please Zaya, just let me try to help."
"Imogen you can't. Just lay me on my bed. Please"
"Ok, Peeta help me" I plead. We lift her fragile body onto her bed.
"Zaya what can I do?" I say tears swelling in my eyes,
"Sing for me."
"What song?"
"Our song."
"Ok Zaya. You just stay with us"
I lay my hand on her's and begin to sing.
"I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, I'll never let you go
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, Don't leave me here alone
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight
Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound
Don't you dare look out your window darling
Everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby
Even when the music's gone
Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound
Just close your eyes
You'll be alright
Come morning light,
You and I'll be safe and sound..."
I finish and stare down at Zaya, her chest is lifting slowly.
"Thank you Imogen, look after her Peeta. Fall in love." she whispers
"We have Zaya. I love you" I whisper in her small pink ear. She manages a faint smile and her chest stops moving. I feel my throat tighten and a sob escapes my mouth. I cry and don't stop.
"Peeta she's gone! " I scream at Peeta who looks at me sadly. I run over to him and embrace his as tight as I could. My tears dampen onto his top.
"She's gone Peeta. Gone. Forever" I weep until I have no tears left to cry.
"I know Imogen, I know. She's watching over us now." I sniff and look up at Peeta.
"Let's make her look amazing." says Peeta holding me at arms length. I nod and rush to her desk which has buttons and meters of coloured ribbon in it. I attach some buttons onto the ribbon and lay it around Zaya. Her eyes are shut and she looks like she is in a deep deep sleep. I tie bunches in her hair with some pale pink ribbon.
After awhile of making Zaya look stunning I stand back with Peeta and watch her remembering all our memories together. How I looked after her for all these years,
"Peeta" I say quietly
"Yeah?"
"She wanted me to love you. She thought you were her new Dad" Peeta didn't say anything and stood there silent.
My little Zaya had left our sight but not our hearts. I would now start a life with Peeta and remember Zaya everyday.
The girl that brung us back to life.
