The Shadow At The Door

The shadow at the door.
He always leaves me wanting, just a little bit more,
Than the last time he came around.

Another boy I meet, maybe two or three,
Seems the same but there's something I don't see,
They cannot cast a shadow on my door.

They try for my attention, I am ignorant of it all,
For I'm still here watching, waiting, as the shadow climbs my wall.

This shadow knows no keeper,
And is fleeting from your door,
He does whatever pleases him,
Nothing less and nothing more.

Observe him from a distance,
Allow your rapture to unfold,
But try to touch him and there's nothing,
But darkness, harsh and cold

That shadow is beautiful to behold,
But there is one thing that I was never told,
A shadow can't be touched, or loved, or hugged, or kissed,
It only can be watched, and when it's gone be missed.

Another place and another time,
Maybe then, that shadow would be mine.

To cast across his doorway.

My poems always turn out pretty sad/dark.. Believe it or not I'm much more lighthearted in real life :)
