As Hallowe'en approaches, one thing I know for sure This year I won't electrify the handle of my door I promise to join in and not pretend that I am out And I won't insult kids costumes if their parents aren't about I promise there'll be sweeties that you actually like I won't tell chancing hoodies that their heads should be on spikes This year I won't get drunk and cause a massive fuss I'm surprised the trick or treaters still come to call on us There'll be pumpkins in the doorway and cobwebs in the hall I'll go one up on last year, when there was bugger all You won't find me complaining when I get egged and floured Even if my look suggests my mood may well have soured You will not catch me saying 'Christ it's Hallowe'en again' It's only once a year, done and dusted before ten I promise to be warm and cheerful, not to be so cold I promise to have fun before I really do grow old Not sure if you can tell but it's really not my scene But I solemnly declare to do my best this Hallowe'en I can sense your cynicism. Yeah right, you softly sigh But I wouldn't break a promise I make....
Would I?
