Some years ago, and down the line Met a woman, and she was fine Relationship shiny and new We did the things that couples do Staying in, going out Whirlwind, of that I had no doubt She was still married, but I could see This girl was the one for me I didn't know what marriage meant And divorce, in fact, was imminent He was a charmer, short but neat Dreamer, liar, dick on heat But we rode on with lover's flame Until the day the postman came Decree Nisi the letter read A marriage coming to a head At first I couldn't understand Why she would cry for this weak man Then vicious rows and phone calls I came to realise after all All she'd known for fifteen years Primary reason for her tears And when all was said and done He'd given her a precious son In quiet times, we'd talk all night And try to put her world to right
Some time later, postman's call The thing I dreaded most of all Decree - this time absolute She looked at me and gave a hoot! With this delivery came gladness But with a little hint of sadness She was no longer a wife But it was a huge piece of her life She wondered why it took so long To turn it around and just be strong Is he ever mentioned? Barely And my stepson only sees him rarely This was divorce, and my part in it My reward worth every single minute
Please excuse me being curt But divorce is really gonna hurt I hope, like me, you stand to gain Some peace, release, after the pain
