Breathe deep a gathering gloom
Sunlight's leaving every room
Bleeding thru the nooks and cracks
To be replaced by inky blacks
The purple dusk has gone to ground
For Night to wrap its arms around
Cold hearted orb has come to call
Without you there's no light at all
Red is grey and yellow white
Decide what's wrong and which is right
Light a candle to rip the dark
Shadows dance and leave a mark
Stars align, pinprick holes
Each one of them departed souls
Velvet cloth with silvery shine
On display for us, it's yours and mine
Black and white will softly sink
Dawn's herald comes in blue and pink
All too soon the Night is gone
Garish day where moon once shone
Snub the candle but don't forget
There'll be another twilight yet
Keep a spare in every room
To light the way in the gathering gloom...
