Cupid stood bemused as his arrows filled the air His task had seemed so simple: make sure love is everywhere His missiles missed their target and fell blunted to the ground And with one projectile left, it seemed love just couldn't be found He had a little look to see if what he did was wrong And quickly came upon the answer, didn't have to look for long He thought, 'These guys are capable of a higher, deeper love Yet they continually spurn this gift I bring from up above Famine, death and pestilence and of course their buddy, war Caused by their own hand. To love they've firmly closed the door I've seen brother killing brother for the things he can't afford I've seen shootings in a schoolyard. Are you mad or just plain bored? I've seen a lot of things that make me think love's had its day And if my arrows aren't that sharp I think I'd best be on my way.'
He took one final look to see if there was any hope There was zip, zero, zilch. Nada, nil, nothing, nope. With his final arrow packed and a tear within his eye His quiver gave a shiver as he prepared to say goodbye He hated the thought of the love he brought being forever banned But then a boy and girl walked past, tenderly holding hands They were wrapped up in each other, their feelings plain to see Cupid smiled and drew his bow, said 'That'll do for me' He was happy that his time on Earth might not have been in vain And he knew the love he gave sometimes meant a little pain Yes he knew what love can do but right now he didn't care He also knew if his aim was true they'd spread love everywhere So he reached into his quiver for the last arrow he'd got With string pulled tight, Cupid's arrow took flight as he whispered, 'one last shot...'
