2 July 2012
He woke up early morning
And made two cups of tea
Poured out bowls of corn flakes
'One for you and one for me'
And then by chance he saw it
From the corner of his eye
Brightly coloured, strapped and locked
Her suitcase, standing by
And then a car horn, blaring
From the street below
He peered from thru the curtain
At a man he didn't know
The briefest explanation
From his wife then came his way
'I'm leaving you' was all she said
'Going. Right now. Today. '
'You're saying that you're leaving?
But I really need to know
What on earth you mean and
Where on earth you mean to go'
She then picked up the suitcase
Behind her slammed the door
Her words hit home like hammers
His tea dropped to the floor
He ran out to the street
She was nowhere to be seen
Just some puffs of exhaust smoke
Where the strangers car had been
He stood there for a moment
Quiet as a mouse
And just as tears were forming
Slowly walked back to his house
He couldn't understand
Thought he'd never miss a trick
And picking up the phone
Thought, 'I'd better ring in sick'
This is just a snapshot
Of an ordinary life
With an ordinary husband
And his soon to be ex-wife
