See the fella at the bus stop In the pouring rain Banned from driving, likes a drink May have to catch a train Getting soaked with no umbrella Was driving him berserk He only had himself to blame If he's late for work It all seemed like a good idea Invite the lads for cards! Despite his marriage breaking down Practically in shards "I've asked the lads to poker Gonna beat 'em out of sight!" "But isn't Thursday supposed to be Our regular 'Date Night'?" But he just ignored her For he was already pissed Her greatest fear, and thru her tears "Go to hell", she hissed All the lads turned up At about half past eight Small talk, beers, cards were dealt Our man was feeling great But as the night wore on Something not quite right For he'd only won a tenner They'd been playing half the night His luck just got no better He started drinking more Surely if you were the host To lose was against the law! Things just went from bad to worse He couldn't win a thing It was now getting really late Birds had begun to sing Dignity out the window Along with any grace The lads knew of his problems That weren't no poker face Then at 4 o'clock He thought he had his winning hand Turned out that he didn't That flush cost him two grand The realisation hit him His head upon his sleeve His poker buddies said goodbye But he didn't see them leave Place looked like a pigsty A pounding in his head He climbed the wooden hill But he couldn't find the bed 6.30 in the morning Brushed his teeth and combed his hair He couldn't quite work out Why his missus wasn't there So it seems our erstwhile hero Had gone and lost it all On a late night whiskey session And a lousy poker call
Snapshot number five Of a man who'd missed his bus Instead of thinking 'Me Me Me' He should have thought of 'Us'
