The bars of sunlight shine through gaps in the trees,
I'm crunching through the orange, red and brown of the fallen autumn leaves.
The only sound is the birds as they flap their wings through the air,
I keep walking and wandering through the trees and mud without a care.
I've pulled on a hat, scarf and gloves to keep me warm,
And even out here amongst the trees and wildlife I somehow feel at home.
Now the bars of sunlight are fading as the sky above turns nightly black,
But I don't want to leave my sanctuary, I really don't want to go back.
But back inside has the advantage of a nice hot steaming drink,
My autumn walk has really cleared my head and given me time to think.
So now I'm curled up all snug and warm in my cosy bedtime clothes,
And I guess as I pull up the covers this brings my story to a close.
