New Girl - Part 10

An emotion of some sort flashed across Sarah's face. It was so brief I didn't have time to work out was it was, but it looked like pain worry or confusion.
"what are they doing to her?!" I growled as Sarah slowly rose to stand up.
She completely ignored me and edged her way to where the scream came.
She moved her hand the the waist band at the back of her trousers and her fingers closed on something. A knife. I quickly realised she came prepared for any mishaps such as this.
She vanished behind the pillar. I could hear harsh whispers but couldn't make out any words. A tall, muscly figure emerged and walked away in the direction Sarah had came in from, his head held low.
Lots of loud scuffling and shuffling noises came from the pillar. After a moment of silence Sarah came back into view closely followed by yet another big guy. The big guy had something in his arms. Florence.
Sarah gestured to an area of the filthy floor just infront of me. The guy strode over, crouched down and Florence fell to the floor.
Blood was slowly oozing from a gash on her left cheek. I wanted to run up to her. Help her. Hold her. Protect her. I writhed around desperate to free myself. I could feel stuff dripping down my hands. I assumed whatever was tying me was cutting into me, causing me to be bleeding from my wrists. That would explain the extreme pain.
"look at her. She looks so peaceful." Sarah spoke quietly.
I felt so helpless. Bit fat tears began rolling down my cheeks. Why did I bother opening my mouth that first day?
I took my eyes away from Florence's body and turned them to Sarah.
Then I noticed something. Her arm was fine. Neither of them were in casts or strapped up. But I heard it crack? Florence was right. Sarah had set the whole thing up.
Florence stirred.
"tie her up. Wrists behind her back. Also tie up her knees and ankles. There's fresh cable ties over there" Sarah ordered. So that's what I was tied with. The big guy did as she said with no hesitance. I couldn't bare to watch him, Florence looked so fragile.
"Sarah, if you don't sort that cut out on her face, it could get infected, she could get septicaemia." my voice was croaky from dehydration and crying.
"shut up Abby I'm not thick." Sarah snapped at me. I closed my eyes. I felt so tired, my head ached, my eyes were heavy. I wanted to sleep so badly, but was too scared. I needed to stay awake. For Florence. For Lewis. Even for Jack.
My emotions were all muddled up. I felt guilt, anger, desperation, fear, worry, and I couldn't determine what else. I breathed in deeply.
"why are you doing this?" I opened my eyes and stared into Sarah's.
"why? Because you messed with me. You showed me up in front of the whole school. You made me look weak. Look who's the weak one now."
"so why bring Florence and Jack and Lewis? They never did anything!" my voice was starting to break, it wasn't going to hold out for much longer.
"because they would have gone for help, silly. Besides they made it much easier, giving me a way to ensure your parents didn't get involved for a while." my eyes welled up again. Everything I had done just made it easier for her.
"I've tied this one, and gagged her. Do we leave her here or put her against something like the others?" the big guy spoke in a rough voice.
"just leave her, she won't be moving very far. Come on let's go. I'll bring you some more water later, my little pets." Sarah almost sang as she came and knelt in front of me. She picked up the cloth that she had earlier removed and brought it to my face.
"now, open wide," I clamped my jaw closed even tighter. "Harry, assist me with this one." the big guy approached me, put a finger under my chin and lifted my head until I was looking up at him. He opened his other hand up, placed his thumb and forefinger either side of my jaw, and pressed where the soft part of my cheek was. My mouth flew open simply to stop the pain. Sarah thrust the cloth into my mouth and tied it tight behind my head.
"good girl, see you later!" she seemed to be enjoying this far too much. I listened as the footsteps silenced and a door clicked shut. Silent tears fell, skimming my cheeks.
I watched Florence for any sign of movement, and was relieved when I saw her chest rise and fall rhythmically. She was alive. An hour must have passed and most of my body was numb now, I didn't even feel the pain.
Florence breathed in sharply, making me jump. Her eyes flew open and all I could see on her face was pure fear. I watched as she struggled and tried to free herself. Then she noticed me, and froze. She looked completely defeated. I moved my head in a motion that I hoped she understood. I was telling her to come to me, she wasn't tied to anything, so she could still push herself along with her feet. She nodded, and scuffled along the floor as best she could. She reached me and pushed herself up against the pillar until she was in a sitting position. She slid along the floor till she was by my side. She rested her head on my shoulder. I put my head on hers. She was so cold, but at least she was no longer alone. My shoulder felt damp and I realised she too was crying.

All we had left to do was wait.
