My mother. That very second made me realise how awful I had been. How stupid I always was. I barely even spoke to my mother, I just blamed her for how I was. I blamed her for always moving me around, but now I understood it was just because she loved me. She wanted to have a decent enough income to provide for me, get me the things I really wanted in life. I thought I hated her, but I love her so much. What I would do to see her face right now, look into her deep brown eyes, tell her I loved her. I would hug her so tight, bury my face deep into her wavy brown locks and absorb the scent of her perfume. I would never let her go again. But now it might be too late. To late to ever tell her that I was sorry, and that I loved her so much. To late to even say goodbye.
Florence's hand twitched.
"oh my god! Florence wake up! Are you awake yet? Hey!" I sat bolt up right gently shaking her shoulders. A moan escaped from her parted lips. She opened here eyes slowly, blinking repeatedly. Suddenly she flew to her feet.
"where are we?" she yelped sounding terrified.
"Sarah moved us, we're in some sorta cage." Lewis grumbled. Florence slowed her breathing and focused on Jack.
"Jack, honey, what's up?" she went over and crouched down in front of him. He swatted her away with his hand, ignoring her question and carried on rocking himself. Back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Florence looked over to me and lewis. We shrugged in unison. She sighed and came over to us, sitting opposite me with her legs crossed.
"now what?" she asked quietly.
"we wait." I said "think about it, it'll be morning soon, and it's a school day. They'll notice you're not there, and people will start to question." Florence looked thoughtful.
"true I guess, she can't phone all three of us in sick..."
Lewis coughed slightly "um, I skive quite a lot so uh, they wouldn't really notice me... And two people who happen to be friends I don't think they'd question too much..." he said guiltily.
"well then our parents would know, seriously, we're not going to stay over each others house more than one night in a row..."
Suddenly Lewis tensed.
"guys, Sarah's not going to let us go. She knows we'd go straight to the police, and even if the police are called then who knows where we are? They could take weeks to find us, if they even do!" his voice rose towards the end.
"aren't you mr optimist!" I smiled, trying to ease the mood in the air.
"sorry," he said apologetically, pulling me closer into the hug. Florence rose one eyebrow slightly at me. I smiled sheepishly, it was one of those moments when your bestfriend discovered who you had fallen for. She smiled to herself and then looked towards Jack. This time it was my turn to raise the eyebrow, she noticed and a big grin formed on her face. I looked up to see Lewis looking very confused. He has such an adorable confused face.
"I'm so glad I'm not doing this on my own," I spoke softly.
"me too," Florence chimed in
"I would rather do it for the four of us so none of you had to suffer..." Lewis looked down and met my eyes.
"you're just the sweetest," I smiled at him, "but I wouldn't let that happen, I'd have hunted Sarah down, followed her, until I found you,"
He smiled to himself before adding "and then turning up like my knight in shining armour to rescue me?" that was it. He had both me and Florence in fits of giggles before I finally managed to get out
"yes, of course." then I was laughing again.
The fact that we weren't tied up and we could speak made the situation much better. We could pass the time by talking, and we were able to share body warmth. It felt good, having cuddles. I haven't actually cuddled anyone since I was 6, not properly anyway. I was beginning to relax into a light sleep when Jack froze, his eyes wide like a deer in the road transfixed by the headlights. Something was wrong. Very wrong.
