No one Else
(Part 1)
Sophie sat on a rock by the calm river up in the mountains behind her school. She was ditching like she always did. She was throwing pebbles at the fish that gathered in the small pool at the edge of the river. "Now you can look for safety, just like me." Sophie said pulling down her sleeve that covered the large, swollen, purple bruise. She stopped throwing the pebbles and pulled her knees up to her chest. Crying and letting all her emotions come out, like the river from the stream. "Are you okay?" Said a voice from behind her. Sophie sniffle and wiped her tears onto her sleeve.
"Who are you and how long have you been there?" Sophie said.
"My name is Jordan, and I've been here long enough to see that bruise on your arm. You should really put some ice on that." The voice said. Sophie turned to see a tall boy with black hair, a black shirt and ripped blue jeans. The boy wasn't wearing any shoes and he held his hand out for Sophie to steady herself as she stood up. "Are you ditching, too?" Sophie asked.
"Are you kidding me? I would give anything to go to school!" Jordan exclaimed.
"But-why? School is so boring."
"We'll, I guess it's just because I've never been to school before."
"What? No school? You are so lucky!"
"Not exactly I- why are you out here?" Jordan asked, changing the subject.
"My uncle, he-he beats me." Sophie wiped her eyes again.
"Oh, you know what. That's why I left everything and came here." He said motioning to the forest around them.
"Really?"
"I know! Don't go back."
"To what?"
"Everything! Stay here-with me! I could use the company."
"Sure! Why not! I don't have much to go back to any way. Let me sneak into school and get my lunch. We can split it." Sophie ran down the hill and snuck into the school.
Twenty minutes later, she came out again carrying a backpack full of food. Jordan clapped his hands when he saw her. "Wow. Big lunch."
"Yeah, it took a lot of convincing to get all this, when have you last had a peanut butter sandwich?" Sophie tossed the sandwich to Jordan who gobbled it up in one bite.
"Mmm, that was nice. Let me show you the house." Jordan and Sophie walked into the forest. An hour and a half later they came to an abandon cabin. It was big with more than one room and bathroom and it would make a perfect home away from everything.
