Little Girl
(part 1)
"You coming?" John, my best friend asked. We had stayed late after school so I could have time to clean my locker. We went to an all boys school. No girls allowed.
"Just a second."
"Alright Mike, but Kay is waiting. We're going to the movies." Kay is John's girlfriend. I nodded and finished stuffing the text book into my backpack. I threw my jacket over my shoulder and closed my dark blue locker. I grabbed my backpack and started toward the door where John stood.
I heard something behind me, like a giggle from a small girl, like when I tickle my little sister, Maggie. I turned around and saw a little girl with light brown hair and a white flowing dress. She giggled again and ran around the corner. "Mike? Mike, you coming?"
"No, go get Kay. I'll find a ride." John nodded and walked out to his blue jeep.
I turned the corner and saw the girl at the end of the hall. "Who are you? Why are you here." The girl dashed behind the corner and down the flight of stairs to the basement. I turned the corner just in time to see the tip of her dress disappear into the darkness behind the slightly open door. "Hello? Little girl?" I asked, knowing she wouldn't answer. Instead she stuck her tiny head through the crack in the door and giggled once more.
I crashed down the stairs, but failed to catch the girl. I stopped in the darkness of the basement to try and get my night vision. Once I had it, I could see the little girl. She looked much paler than before. She wasn't smiling, she appeared to be frowning. With her head slightly tilted to the left, she opened her mouth. A silent scream came out, but it was obviously a scream. I stared at her, frightened but also I wanted to help. I stuck my hand out to show her I was no threat to her. She stopped abruptly, her head now strait up, she said, "Mary." Mary dashed around the corner and I was close to follow. I saw her every move, when she turned a corner so did I, when she jumped over boxes I attempted to, but some were to high, especially for a little girl no older than seven.
I finally got around an enormous box, and saw Mary slip into a dark corner. I ran to the corner as fast as I could. Dead end, and no Mary in sight. There was a cough behind me. I turned and saw Mary, she held a knife close to her chest. "Hello Mike." She said in a calm voice.
"How do you know my name?"
"I know a lot about you, Mike. I know where you live, how old you are, and how you are going to die." Mary held up the knife and lunged at me. She came no where near where I was standing, but I still felt the hot and sticky blood dripping off my cheek. I ran around the corner hoping to hide, but everywhere I went, Mary had beaten me to it. I looked frantically for a way out of the basement. Then I saw it, with a small crack of light. I couldn't see Mary but I knew she was here.
I heard crying behind me. I didn't stop walking toward the door but I still turned again, I saw Maggie. My sister. I ran to her and before I knew it, Mary had a knife next to her throught. "No." I whispered to Mary, and reached out to Maggie.
"Come any closer, she dies." Mary shouted and took a step back. Maggie's face was dripping wet from her tears. She looked at me with her big green eyes. I could see the fear clouding her vision. It wasn't just fear in her eyes, it was, potatoes? Yeah, potatoes. "That isn't Maggie." I said and stood up straight, "I don't know what kind of magic your using right now but it doesn't work any more." Mary's face was shocked and the fake Maggie looked up at me questioningly.
"Fine, I gave it a try. But don't expect more, I'm only seven." Mary released Maggie who fell to the ground. By the time she hit the floor, she was a sack of potatoes, for lunch at school. "Black magic is hard to control, you should know that, Mike." Mary smirked and in an instant she was behind me with the knife, blocking my only exit. 'They have to have windows down here, don't they?' I thought and looked around. "I boarded up the windows. You can't get out." Mary said taking a step toward me, knife in hand. 'Oh no,' I thought, 'This is the end.' Mary jumped making another gash in my arm. I tried to run, but I had lost too much blood and I became very slow.
I ducked behind a corner and sat down. "Yeah she won't find us here, ha ha!" Mary was sitting next to me. She stabbed my leg. I screamed and everything went black...
