Dale's Doll...part 2

She held her doll tightly, trying to comfort herself and try and make sense of what had just happened.

It all happened so very quickly. One minute her father was shouting at her for drawing on her bedroom wall. The next her mother is screaming because her father had slipped and fell down the stairs.

Her father had broke his neck in the fall.

Often the little girl heard her mummy crying at night, she would lie down next to her and both her and her dolly would cuddle her mummy until she fell to sleep.

The little girl knew everything would be ok as she had Dale.

Just like she would be ok when one of her friends came around to play and she began being spiteful. All the little girl wanted was for this girl to be her friend.
The next day at school she wondered why her friend wasn't there, after the register was taken, the whole class were told that the girl had accidentally fell off the path into the road and was seriously hurt by an oncoming car.

Dale would make everything alright.

The little girl always seemed obliviously happy, even though she had lost her daddy and her friend was still in hospital seriously ill.
Her mother was barely coping and she began to feel that her daughter was not coping either, that she had an unhealthy bond with her doll. That she was using the doll to hide away how she was feeling.
Her mother thought that the doll had to go.

The next day after dropping her daughter off at school, she went back home.
She walked up the stairs and went into her daughters room.
There on the bed was her doll. She guiltily picked it up and took it back downstairs. She then took it outside and threw it into the bin by the side of the house. She closed the lid with a heavy heart.

She then got ready to do a few errands.

As she drove along, she was approaching some traffic lights, she began to slow up by putting her foot on the brake. All of a sudden the car began to accelerate and although she was frantically pushing the brake, the car got faster and faster. The car hit the back of a lorry at speed.

When she woke, she could see the nurses in a flurry of activity around her bed. She tried to focus, her throat was so dry, not one word could she speak.
The doctors told her that she had been in a coma for 4 days and was very lucky to be alive.

The little girl was taken in to see her mother, by her grandmother and grandfather.

Her mother began to cry and held out her arms to hold her daughter, they held each other so so tight.
The little girl then looked at her mummy and told her that everything would be ok.
She was holding her doll tightly to her chest, she told her mummy that Dale would make everything ok, that Dale would protect them both.

Writing has been my friend since a teenager...I laugh, cry, think, pretend, smile as I do it. I feel that I communicate better through my writing as in person I can appear a tad scatty.
