You know, I could hardly help it.
You were there, and now you're not.
Unspoken words and sidelong glances,
Your presence gone left a missing friend.
I'm not a person from the perfect songs.
I admit, I don't think of you everyday.
Silent tears and solemn faces,
Time makes all things mend.
And yes, I miss you terribly.
You were the sun in the summer of my youth.
Smiling eyes and comforting embraces,
You couldn't see it, but hundreds came to attend.
Even still, I oft forget.
My words come out in unthinking blend.
Cut-off words and dusty pictures,
Your garden grew still when you could not tend.
But I will never forget that moment.
The one when I knew from the look in her eyes.
Drying tears and hushed whispers,
You were always there with words to lend.
