Chapter 10: Falling In Love Is Easy!

There was nothing really to highlight from day to day-apart from the weather. The wind blew my hair apart until it looked like a birds nest, and the beauty of the warm oranges and yellows in the leaves were bombarded and flung out by the wind into every possible direction. It was now Autumn. And this means that temperatures were falling, and inside our little cottage too. Sooner or later we would need some more wood, and what did this mean? I would see Alek.
I immediately smiled to myself.

"What are you smiling about Natasha?" My mum asked with curiosity.

"Nothing" I said, hoping to hide my emotions.

"Now then, it's getting very chilly outside, and-" But I cut her off without even thinking.

"You need some wood!" I exclaimed, with possibly a little too much enthusiasm.

"Yes, we do. That's what I was going to say Nat..."

"Sorry"

"Anyway, would you mind popping to the woods and collecting some wood? You seem so enthusiastic. Some branches would do, or if you like you can get dad to come with you to help with the chopping"

"No, that's fine. I can manage!"
"Okay then Nat. But make sure you wear your coat, it's awfully windy out there"

"Yes mother!" I replied with delight.

And with no hesitations I was already throwing my coat on, and hanging my satchel on my shoulder; I lunged outside. This was my chance- I thought. And so I skipped up to the forest cheerfully, not paying any attention to the cold of the outside. But first, the deed had to be done I told myself. I kneeled; picking some branches and sticks from the earthy ground. Soon enough I had a bucket full of branches and wood, but how could I manage to chop any? I was strong, but not so strong; even though I to my mum I would manage by myself- this was lie really. But then it struck me- Alek! He could help. After all, my parents didn't say what time I was to get back, and there was a whole Saturday in front of me. Then I felt a tap on my shoulder; it was like he could read my mind. I was beggining to think Alek was a professional spy. And turning round, I smiled at him.

"Hey" I said.
"Hi Natasha" Alek pronounced happily, "I see your collecting some wood".

"Yeah, mind helping me?"
"Sure"

I handed Alek the steel chopper and he forced a dent in the tree. He kept on chopping, until a neat, chunk of wood broke loose.

"Your good" I said.
"Oh, no need for the flatter" He replied, smiling but still focused on the tree.

"How much do you need?"
"Plenty. It's for the fire" .

He continued. Bang, chop, bop- the blade continued to attack the tree. Until finally, nearly five chunks lay randomly as they fell on the ground.

"Would that be enough?"

"Yes. Thank you do much for your help!" I replied, collecting my ready chopped wood.

"No need. It's a man's job after all. Not for the gentle ladies of ours" Alek said, with a bit of sarcasm in his voice.

"Ha! You think I'm gentle?"
"I didn't say you were!"
"Well I'm a lady, and as you said ladies are gentle..."

"You cheeky thing!" Alek exclaimed. Pinching my cheek.

"Oi! Remember, I'm gentle, delicate as a flower" I added, laughing.

We both laughed.

"Right do you want to climb up to my treehouse? Or shall I carry you, dear lady?" He asked, still laughing.

"I would be delighted young man" I replied, acting out a posh voice.

He then took my hand, kissed it and said in the politest and poshest voice possible:

"Well, It shall be a privilege".

We then walked hand in hand, along the muddy pathway until we reached his treehouse. I thought what he said about the 'carrying thing' was a joke. But he actually meant it. Because as soon as I attempted climbing the ladder, he picked me up, and carrying me in his arms, gently climbed up the ladder. I felt so safe in his arms. It was like nothing could hurt me. Like this place was my home.

Soon we reached the top, and still he carried me in, and even laid me down on the two bean bags. He was treating me like a child- and at sixteen, I was the opposite.

"There you go Natasha" said, braking the silence.

I giggled. "You know I was joking about the whole thing".

"So was I. But how could I not look after such a beautiful girl like you...".

I blushed again.

"Oh please, I'm not a girl anymore! I'm sixteen!"

"Yes, but I'm seventeen. So the eldest should always look after the younger ones" Alek explained sweetly.

I had fallen in love. The same urgency as the first time I met him swam through my mind. And not even thinking about it, thats what I did.

I stroked his face, and leaned in. But Alek immediately let go.

"And I thought I was the one who couldn't bare seeing those lips without a kiss" He said, cheekily.

We both stood up, and I walked back until my back was leaning against the wall. Alek followed me, and he finally leaned against my body. We started kissing again. Alek passionately locked his lips on mine, and I joined in. When we finished, a smile grew on both of our faces.

"Alek. I wanted to ask you something. In fact, quite a lot of things..." I told him.

"Ask all you like!" He replied.

I hesitated.

"Why do you live alone?"
