While not quite within this world, I lie back with fists tightly curled,
The blankets held tighter and fingers turning whiter,
I look past our realm of light and travel seamlessly into night,
The dream, more real than day, picks me up and carries me away,
Lost upon cloud-topped mountains and dancing inside rainbow fountains,
I ride the dream into the dark, looking for a safe place to park -
The night world is mystery, born each night with brand new history,
Sometimes monsters live, other nights the realm has nothing to give,
But as I slumber in watchful sleep, I try and venture forever deep.

@naaviie That's called lucid dreaming, and most people can train themselves to do it. My daughter was able to it naturally when she was young, though she says it doesn't happen anymore.
@naaviie I don't think so, because it is about what happens when you are truly asleep. For me, it was a matter of holding an intention in focus as I was falling asleep, and eventually having that intention carried out in my dreams. When I was young, I often had nightmares that ended in falling. I got tired of waking up with an adrenaline rush, and was finally able to turn falling dreams into flying dreams.
