'what?' Adam said choking on his drink.
'Cathy' I repeated very slowly.
'oh she's just a girl I went out with years ago, before I even met you' he replied quickly.
'why did your mum think I was her then?' I pressed further.
'she loved Cathy, found her perfect and desperately wanted us to get married, I found Cathy was nice at first but she was clingy and constantly wanting to know where I was, who I was with and what we were doing. I was only eighteen aswell, I wasn't ready for that kind of relationship.' he explained. I sighed, 'she really doesn't like me does she' I said sadly.
'don't say that' he said and came and sat next to me on the floor and wrapped his arm around me. 'she just needs to get to know you that's all.' he said encouragingly.
'Adam... Abby dad is home.' Alex called up the stairs. I stood up and smoothed my hair down. I tentatively followed Adam down the stairs.
'Adam, finally come to visit your old man, have you.' cried a kind faced middle aged man.
'oh and this must be the girl we've all been waiting for.' he exclaimed looking around Adam. He came and gave mu a huge hug and kissed me on both cheeks. 'daaad' Adam mumbled shuffling and staring at his feet which made him seem younger. His dad turned to Adam and said, 'you certainly picked a beauty, I'm proud of you son.' I saw immediately where Adam's and Alex's charm came from. Adam smiled and took my hand, 'she certainly is.' he said kissing my head. Alex came bounding down the hall. 'you don't happen to have a younger sister do you.' he said playfully and Adam batted him on the arm. We all burst out laughing. 'oh and I'm Keith, by the way.' Adams dad told me. 'I'm Abby, but you already knew that.' I said smiling. I felt instantly more relaxed with his dad home, the house had, had an uncomfortable tension before he came home. It finally felt like things were looking up, I thought smiling to myself.
