I tucked Amelie into the Moses basket that sat beside our bed, I couldn't seem to tear my eyes her, It felt like if I did that she would vanish. Adam padded quietly into the room and lay down beside me. He kissed my neck and looked at Amelie, 'your amazing.' Adam whispered to me, I turned to him smiling and kissed him back. 'go to sleep Abby, you need to rest, i will watch over her.' he said pulling the duvet over me. I snuggled up against Adam while he held me as a fell asleep. I woke up as I heard footsteps, I looked at the clock and it read two o'clock. I sat up and looked at the bottom of the bed, Adam was walking slowly up and down trying to quieten Amelie, 'shhh, you don't want to wake up mummy.' he whispered kissing her tiny head. Her bleating subsided to a gently mewing. 'it's alright Adam, I'm awake.' I said blearily. 'I didn't want to wake you, but I think she's hungry.' he said sheepishly, passing her to me. She quietened down as soon as I started to feed her, I looked down at her perfect little face, her brow was furrowed in concentration. When she was done I tucked her back into the basket. I flopped back into bed and Adam instantly pulled me to him, he wrapped his arms around me and I nuzzled deeper into his chest as our breathing became deeper and sleep claimed us.
The next few days were a blur of nappies, crying and feeding. Dark circles had developed under Adam and my eyes, but we didn't mind because we were just happy that we had Amelie and each other.
My mum and dad flew out to see their granddaughter and were more than happy to lend a hand with her so Adam and I could rest.
I walked into Amelie's room to see my mum changing her nappy and cooing over her. Who's a pretty girlie.' she said tickling Amelie's tummy, Amelie responded with gurgles and laughs. I looked down at my daughter with pride oozing out of me. My mum wrapped her arm around my waist, 'abby I'm so happy you found the right man, and that you've blessed us all with this beautiful baby.' she said smiling with her eyes flooded with tears. 'she's perfect, isn't she mum?' I cooed at Amelie as I picked her up, 'perfect.' mum sighed happily.
