I smiled as I saw Amelie racing across the garden, closely followed by Lucy's little girl, Olivia.
Adam looked across at me, gazing at me lovingly and gently squeezing my hand. Pride oozed from him as he we watched our little girl. I kissed him gently on the lips, not letting go of his hand.
We both looked to our left as we heard a small whimper. Lucy was also looking on proudly at her little toddler, as she desperately tried to catch up with Amelie. We often talked excitedly about how they to would grow up being best friends as their mothers before them had been. She looked weary but content, as Tom, beside her, was trying to quieten the new arrival to their family. She had another little girl, Sophie, only a month old, as the small curve that was still visible under her clothes showed.
Tom had proposed the day he found out Lucy was pregnant with his child. Their wedding was beautiful, and because they married before she gave birth, the wedding was even more special for them as their little girl was there with them.
I turned back to Adam, who too looked as though he was reminiscing about the past, I felt a stirring within me and brought him back to the present as he felt his son stretching inside me. My stomach curved out in front of me, containing our precious baby boy. It had taken three rounds of IVF to get him, but finally being able to feel him moving and growing inside of me made all the disappointment, heartbreak and emotional strain worth it. Adam lent over and kissed me, our kisses no longer were fiery and filled with longing, but had developed into ones that bared our souls and spoke a thousand 'I love you's ' in one action.
'look at our baby's growing up.' Lucy cooed.
'I can't believe that they are already four, they'll be starting school this September.' I sighed.
'when's jamie due?' she asked.
'mid-September.' Adam interjected. Lucy nodded and then busied herself with Sophie.
'we really have been through it all.' I said quietly so that only Adam would hear.
'well you know what they say Abby... All's fair in love and war.'
