I've been thinking about life recently, It's brushed by in a haze, I keep remembering all the happy times, Each year a different faze.
Flashbacks from being a tiny thing, Spending more time with the ones I love, Christmas mornings, birthdays too, The happiness sent down from above.
I remember sitting on my grandpas knee, I'd never loved someone like this, I would visit him all the time, Each day greet him with a kiss.
He'd always give me custard creams, A secret stash he'd keep, I never think I'll meet a man with a heart like his, so deep.
We only lived two minutes away, Which was perfect for both of us, As we loved each other just the same, The one person I could trust.
My poor grandpa was never very well, His lungs were beyond repair, He was a soldier in the war you see, Where they would smoke without a care.
Over the years he got worse and worse, Some days he couldn't get out of bed, But somehow when he saw my brother and I his worries would leave his head.
Ask anyone, I couldn't be away from him, I'd tell him all the time, That I loved him to the moon and back, I'm finding it hard not to cry.
But these tears I shed are happy ones, My childhood was just grand, I'm sorry that he had to go, my world without him is quite bland.
But you see this is why I appreciate my wonderful family, Especially my little baby brothers, That my grandpa sent down to me.
Love you grandpa x
