We'd planned a fun day out again, Many of these this year, Only this time there was a surprise waiting for us, it made me laugh and cheer.
We wanted to hire a boat for a while, Two hours on the river, Had a few problems along the way, Many gave me the shivers!
We had to park right by the locks, Our boat crashed on the side, We had to wrap the ropes right round but nearly washed us in the tides!
My whole family were shouting at each other, To me it made me laugh, But everyone else just stared at us, We did seem very daft.
But eventually we sorted it out, Enjoyed whatever was left, My eldest brother steered us round, A natural at his best.
Sad to say, it was over like that, Our time on the boat was done, But wasn't I glad to have finished right then, As it was the beginning of all the fun!
As we took off our life jackets, I saw a familiar face, A woman I knew from the Olympics, but her name I could not trace.
I decided to run after her, I knew what was her sport, An amazing Olympic rower, Who I finally caught.
She had a very friendly face, Greeted me with a smile, I asked her for a picture feeling timid and fragile.
The gold medalist didn't mind one bit, Though I did feel pretty bad, Drawing attention to her, though she didn't seem very mad.
She told me it was nice to meet me, She shook my hand, quite firm, I still can't believe I met an Olympian, miss Katherine Grainger.
