Chapter 1:
It all started on my eighteenth birthday. I decided that it was time for me to do some proper work and stop doing small, pointless jobs for my parents. I knew exactly where I wanted to work, but didn't think I had the experience. I was so desperate to get a job at "Blushing Brides", It had been my dream job since I could remember. I was studying really hard at university and was working my way up to becoming a top lawyer, but until then I wanted to make enough money to buy a small apartment of my own.
I'd been offered jobs by quite a few of the mums at my brothers school; they said I had a "great way with kids," but I knew I would enjoy working somewhere else a lot more, and that was the wedding shop.
One Saturday morning, I built up the courage to visit the petit store. I hadn't planned what I was going to say, or how I would approach the manager, I just hoped that I had enough charm to please her.
As I pushed the squeaky door open a tiny bell rang out to show that someone had come in. I was greeted by a middle-aged woman who welcomed me with her big smile.
"hi there!" she said, I think she could tell I was a bit anxious to come in as I kept my hands clasped tightly together.
"hello," I replied, not knowing what to say. "I'm not here to buy a wedding dress." I blurted out, sounding pretty stupid standing in the middle of a bridal boutique, but the kind lady just nodded sympathetically. "I've just loved your shop since I can remember and I drive up this road everyday just so I can admire your beautiful gowns. I was just hoping that maybe you had some small jobs for me to do here, it's just that this is the only place I can see myself enjoying work. But don't worry if you don't, I was just curious."
The woman stepped forward and gently rested her hand on my arm. "please sweetheart, take a seat." she gestured towards a beautiful old chair that I assumed she bought from an antique shop.
I was beside myself how beautiful the shop was from the inside. The walls were painted a delicate cream colour and there was a beautiful rusted armoire in the corner where a sparkling tiara and pearls had been delicately laid out. The dress on show this week was a beautiful fitted dress with short leaves and lace coverage with a sweetheart neckline and a beautiful black ribbon to tie it at the waste. Seeing the shop from the inside for the first time was enough to make me fall in love with it, and I knew if I didn't get the job today, I would keep coming back every time I got the chance to.
