Chapter 14:
The room had a dark, gloomy feel to it from the minute I walked in. The walls were painted a mucky grey and the only furnishing was a small wooden desk and chair in the middle of the room with a bright light pointing directly at it in the corner.
I sat in the chair rubbing my hands together and taking in deep breaths. There was a pen and two pencils already laid out for me and I knew that I was prepared and more ready for this then I would ever be.
I heard the door scratching behind me and a woman stood next to the desk. "you have two hours, you may begin."
I gently rubbed my new lucky charm that hang around my neck and said a quick prayer before turning the page. The questions were long and draining but all everything I knew off by heart. I was good at law, everyone told me so. And I enjoyed it too. But if you're never completely in love with something, don't commit until your heart says so. My heart sent me down a different path and I knew I wouldn't look back.
I focused hard on the paper and what the examiner wanted me to write and so did everything my amazing professor had taught me to do, properly and correctly.
Time passed quickly and I had to keep checking my watch to pace myself for the last fifteen minutes. Before I knew it the woman tapped my shoulder and the test was over. It was hard; there was a lot to achieve in the amount of time but I knew I had done everything I could.
Two weeks passed until the envelope came in the post. On the front it was stamped with the examination board's crest and I sat down with it for a little while. After a few minutes I called my parents in to open it with me and we all sat around the living room with anticipation.
"oh Soph, just open the bloody thing! We're dying here!" "ok, ok..."
I tore the folded part off in one go and began to tug slowly at the letter. I couldn't breathe properly and my heart was pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears.
It was out, but before I could read a single word my phone began to ring. It was Cindy...
