Chapter 31:
I tugged the cover away from the mirror, allowing Jasmine time to turn around as we both admired her reflection. I did up the final button that fit perfectly around her tummy whilst all she could do was turn slightly to see the different angles of herself in the mirror, her hand glued to her mouth the entire time. "It's too beautiful, Sophia. Just too beautiful." She said through teary breaths. "Thank you. I know how busy you've been." "You're welcome." I replied resting my hand on her tummy. "I'm glad you like it." "I love it. How did you make it so perfectly without even asking what I liked?" "I've been planning it for a while, and Chris and Matt helped me out a lot." "Well, that's very sweet of them. How are they, by the way?" I hid my hand behind my back; I wasn't going to tell anyone about the engagement until after Jasmine's wedding, especially the bride herself, it just wouldn't be fair to take the attention from her. Of course, my parents knew as Matt had gone to my father to ask for his blessing. They were very excited, although slightly worried I was too young, but from the first time they had met Matt, they could see how in love I was with him.
"They're fine." I replied turning red. "Ah, that's good." Jasmine said with slightly puzzled eyes.
The night before the big day. Within a week we had fitted the dress and made slight adjustments in size, got the hall and reception area ready; jasmine was rather stressed and used Sam and my support to get her by. It was all ready, and all we could do was wait for the big day to arrive. I went to bed early, as I knew Jas would need my help the next day. I knew she wouldn't be able to sleep due to nerves and her now uncomfortable bump, but needed the time to herself to think things through and prepare herself for her lifetime commitment.
"Soph, Soph?" I felt a whisper through my ear, as well as a repetitive tap on the shoulder. "What's wrong, are you ok?" I asked rubbing my eyes. "I can't sleep."
It was 5:00am, a bit too early for my liking, but couldn't bewilder my best friend on such an important day. I scooted over in my bed and snuggled up in my duvet, making plenty of room for our third little friend. "I don't know what's wrong with her! She's too excited today!" Blurted out Jasmine. "HER! It's a girl! Oh, Jasie!" "Oh no! I've really done it now! Well, you had to know, after all, you are going to be her god mother." She said with a grin. "I would love to be. Thank you." "Thank you! Without you, none of this would be going as smoothly as it is. You're my best friend Sophia." We cuddled for minutes, hours, I don't know, but it was clear that her little baby was either very excited or very squished between us two excited ladies.
