Chapter 20:
The phone rang early the next morning, putting me in an exciting mood. I hoped it would be one of my first customers, but as I looked closely I soon recognised the number:
"Hello." I answered, heartlessly, feeling my tummy knot inside. "Hey Soph," replied the familiar voice of my best friend. "How are you?" She asked. "I'm fine. How are you?" "Good." Silence. "I just thought I'd let you know that I'm just about to leave for the airport." "I know. I saw it on your Facebook." "Ok, well, I guess that's it then." I didn't reply, feeling my eyes fill with tears. "Bye then." She said, weakly. "Bye."
I put down the phone collapsing to the floor. Matt jogged towards me knowing exactly what had just happened. "Oh Soph. What happened?" "She's gone. She's on her way to the airport. and I didn't say anything." I tried to speak through my sobs. "You'll regret not saying goodbye to her. Go." "Go? But she'll be at the airport!" "If doesn't matter! Go get her! Do you know the terminal?" I nodded getting up from the ground. "Ok then, I'll go."
After quickly washing and running to my car I felt a buzz of excitement inside as I remembered why I loved Jasmine so much. I couldn't stay upset with her, she was my sister, and I loved her.
The long line kept me from reaching the terminal and I knew I was probably too late. I sprinted to the entrance but the different stands confused me and I had no idea where to find her. I went up to the final checkpoint before you needed your passport and ticket but they were completely out if sight. I turned around and walked to the door, feeling melancholy and angry with myself for not saying goodbye.
The car door slammed shut and I frantically searched for my keys until a sudden thudding noise alarmed me. "Sophia! Sophia!" It was Jasmine! She had seen me! "What are you doing here?" She asked as I opened the door to her. "I came to say goodbye to you," I said, feeling like a little child. "I'm really gonna miss you," she said hugging me tightly, "but it won't be for long, I promise." "I'll miss you too. I love you so much." "I love you too, Soph." We hugged each other again, wiping one another's tears. Eventually we had to part ways, and as she walked away I had to stop myself from following her. She quickly turned around and started shaking her hand in front if her face as a sparkly thing started glistening in the morning sun. "In a few months Soph, I'll be back. And I need you to do something before then, can you do it for me?" I was so confused until I got a closer look at her hand. "For June, I need a dress. A very special dress. For my wedding day!" "Jas!!! Congratulations!!" "So, maid of honour, I need you to make me a dress that will accommodate mummy and baby." I squeezed her tight, as I rubbed my hand against her minute tummy. I couldn't contain my excitement.
