Chapter 4:

Cindy brought me back into the warmth and scuffled off to the kitchen. I didn't want to leave her alone so followed along behind to help. It didn't surprise me that the small kitchen area was still well thought out and welcoming. It was dim lit with the same sparkling fairly lights hanging on the wall.

Cindy collected up her tea set which seemed quite old but still very beautiful. The china was painted with delicate vintage roses and other flowers and had a whole cupboard to itself for storage. Cindy carefully prepared the tea and little nibbles and I could see that she really enjoyed being a hostess, even for the smallest of events.

I helped her bring the late afternoon tea into the front of the shop and we both sat down with a sigh. The day had taken a lot out of me as most of my energy went into nerves and worrying. As I looked around the boutique for the hundredth time this day, I knew it couldn't be more perfect. I had seen other wedding shops, many in fact as I helped aunts and cousins chose their dresses before, but nothing compared to this one. Any one who walked in here would instantly feel the loving glow that passed around and that was enough for me to want this job bad enough.

During my look around I remembered the picture frame I saw when I came in and hoped Cindy wouldn't mind me asking her about it. "Cindy," whilst getting up, "who's that in the picture, if you don't mind me asking?" "that's my mother and father on the day of their wedding." she explained whilst she came and joined me. "they were just married when they had Maggie, but I was a 'late' surprise to them. That's the reason we decided to make the shop into the bridal boutique; mother always used to tell us how magical her wedding day was, it was the only bedtime story I requested from her and Maggie considering she knew it so well too. Mother already owned the shop, and she used to sell little dresses and accessories, but when she died and Maggie and I inherited the shop, we both decided that to sell wedding dresses was the best way to remember our mum." I swallowed trying not to show that her story nearly moved me to tears. Although Cindy didn't say it, I knew from how her eyes were glued to the picture that her parents were deeply in love and that one day she wanted to find someone who loved her like that. "what a beautiful story. I'm sure there day was magical.." I trailed off slightly not knowing exactly what to say. "yes, well they had the best marriage in the world. They really loved each other." We both looked at the picture for a while before carrying on with our tea. We sat and chatted for hours and I was disappointed when it was time for me to leave. I knew that Cindy usually took the bus home and so offered to give her a lift. I asked about her sister Maggie and when I could possibly meet her and Cindy explained to me that she wasn't very well but as soon as she was back to her normal self she'd be buzzing around the shop like she usually did. We waved goodbye and I felt so proud to be working at the shop. I couldn't wait for the next weekend to come around.
