I awake in a bed
And a room I don't know
It's eerily quiet
And a stench starts to grow
I place my feet on the ground
But my knees are so weak
So I shake them to wake them
Until the blood to them seeps
Now that I'm stable
And I'm able to move
I make my way to a window
My fears are there proved
The streets seem so barren
Just debris rolling by
As I open the window
The smell hits my eyes
It's puerile and putrid
Death unmistakably
Not a smell that's familiar
But nothing else it could be
I make my way from the window
Towards the closed door
With fright and curiosity
Not knowing what's in store
Now clasping the handle
I pull open and peer
A long lonely corridor
Is what greets my stare
The buzz of the lights
The only sound
There's something I feel
The silence shrouds
Then out of nowhere
The shrillest of screams
The kind usually heard
In horror movie scenes
That noise only comes
Just before the very end
It signals loss of hope
That a life has been spent
Curiosity grabbed me
Much stronger than fear
I follow the scream
And see a man just stood there
I cant see his face
He has his back to the door
As I'm about to approach
I see a body on the floor
It's broken and mutilated
Ripped open and spread
So much blood all around
The whole room's bathed in red
I break free my gaze
From the horror at his feet
And notice the man
Has turned towards me
His skin is ashen
His eyes are dead
His hunger still strong
Even though he's just fed
Still chewing on flesh
As he eyes his next meal
Time seems to stand still
This doesn't feel real
Then the clock starts again
As he lunges at me
I turn to escape
To another room that I see
I made it I'm in
I lock the door straight away
The crazed man runs past
Phew!.... I'm ok
I turn on the lights
In this room that I've found
More tragedy hits me
Three bodies on the ground
One of them a child
No older than six
There's a scream on his face
And a blood and tears mix
I fall down to my knees
By the little boys side
I grieve for this stranger
Then he opens his eyes
He's got that same look
As the undead man before
His hunger is evident
His teeth into me bore
I push him away
And run out of the room
My adrenalin takes over
I can feel my heart boom
It's only a bight
I'll be okay
Just need to get out
Then I'm sure I'll be safe
I'm spluttering red
And my nose starts to bleed
My vision is blurred
As my heart slows its beat
I stop for a moment
To gather my breath
Everything seems different
Like something has left
My eyes become weary
And have to be closed
The next time that they open
Hunger is all my body knows
