(this is more of a rhyming story than a poem which was inspired by a dream I had many years ago)

If he ever felt awkward Distressed or upset He'd rip an hole in the ground And in it he'd get He'd jump through the tear To a safer place He'd go on for years Troubles he would never have to face

He started out in life Just like so many other boys He was happy in his bedroom Playing with his many splendorous toys He had dinosaurs and robots And figurines of fanciful things He loved books of made up worlds Like Alice in wonderland and lord of the rings

The time came for him to venture Into the intimidating bleak outside His mother was getting worried That her little boy forever would hide He started on the drive with a ball Bouncing it against the garage alone No siblings and his father always busy The ball bounces straight back when its thrown

He went down to the park on the corner At the insistence of his ever hopeful mum She figured he'd make friends if he tried But the children there didn't want to be chums A big burly boy came towards him He couldn't fathom what for He said "hey this is my park get out of here" And he punched him and pushed him to the floor

It was with this bullies push That he discovered his gift Because as he beat with his fists the cold ground That's when he first conjured a rip Through the rip he recognised the scene It was his bedroom and all of his toys He didn't hesitate for a second Jumping through it was the obvious choice

From then on for several years He tore a hundred holes or maybe even more Every moment he felt uneasy He would disappear through a gap in the floor Trough his actions he was missing experiences Like connections with family or friends But he seemed completely oblivious It seemed that the tearing never would end

Until one day he was angered And he again tore an hole in the floor He was just about to dive through it When he began to have second thoughts He realised it was completely useless And not doing him at all any good He would face down all of his troubles Just to prove to himself that he could
