There's a king and a queen And a princess so beautiful She met her one true love At the grandest of royal balls
He wasn't a prince Or any man of great pedigree They fell hopelessly in love And started meeting in secrecy
This man lived in the country Along way from the kingdom With a family of little means A royal marriage could never come
So the princess snook out To be with her peasant The king though found out And sent henchmen to get her
They caught up to her On a long country road Half way between Her love and her home
There was a struggle right there Which the princess would lose The peasant came looking But all he found, a red shoe
And with that it was over The princess locked away No fairy tale ending At least not on this day....
