Today seems like the rest, a cobble stone road winds in front of me, the sun seems brighter somehow, a tree emits a hanged frown.

People walk by, never saying a word, a greeting of the day, that would be unheard.

The December air chills my breath, people move in haste, depression seems to rule their day, tired of life's mundane way.

Shades of gray all around, no way to shake this permanent frown.

Stray cats even seem down, looking for scraps on the ground.

A final break is what I need, an urge for coffee, my body pleads.

A coffee shop on the corner, I head in that direction, happy people laugh as they exit, finally a chance of reflection.

Cheerful people inside, a different mood it seems, a positive look on life, a shine of love gleams.

I exchange friendly words, smiles fill their faces, not a care in the world, a small break from their races.

I walk out the door, a new look on life, the gray hits me again, cut through like a knife.
